Overview: This rigorous three-day workshop uses design thinking-driven innovation as an approach to develop practical solutions for complex challenges.The workshop on design thinking will enable entrepreneurs to use the principles of Human Centred Design to solve specific problems related to their businesses, validate their hypothesis with real customers, refine their business plans and processes, as well as developing a visual prototype of their solution which may be in the form of; a refined customer journey, low fidelity wireframes mocking out efficient user flows in the case for digital businesses or informed business process flows.

Overview: Careful consideration of economics and business strategy can make the difference between simply having a great idea and building a great company. This 3-day masterclass focuses on clearly defining your business model and how you propose to make money with your product or service. Case studies will be used to test concepts against a specific business. Participants will be assisted to identify and screen new ideas and/or opportunities with the intention of establishing new products/services and/or venture. Participants will be able to analyse the viability of a selected idea/opportunity against specific screening variables, research the potential of a particular idea/opportunity as a new venture, analyse a range of risks associated with a new venture and evaluate new venture ideas/opportunities based on research findings.

Overview: In this masterclass, participants will learn about the legal and tax considerations of starting and growing a business, including how to register, structure, and report on business activities. Emphasis will be on the importance of understanding the entire “ecosystem” of your business, especially Co-operatives, including corporate organization, intellectual property, contracts and more. Participants will be able to comply with legal requirements and understand the implications of legal matters pertaining to their enterprise. Overview: Offered over 5-days, this workshop will introduce participants to the process of financial decision-making to serve various business objectives in different settings. Core activities will focus on financial frameworks including: financial management, financial reports, cash flow projections/ analysis, capital structure, equity/debt options, and critical financial metrics and ratios. This workshop will develop participants understanding of how decisions can affect and improve an organisation’s financial performance. This workshop will also allow one to improve pitching skills meeting potential investors and in preparation of a solid financial model to present to investors. Marketing for Start-Up Ventures

Overview: The objective of this workshop is to provide participants with an understanding of the marketing-management process. It addresses the fundamentals of developing and launching a marketing campaign using the proper application of lean marketing methodologies. Students will acquire the skills needed to create high-quality tested marketing content for various social media platforms, develop growth hacking techniques, assess key metrics (measurable marketing), and identify influencers and target audiences. Students will launch both testing and real campaigns for an early-stage start-up (hypothetical or real, depending on student interest).

Overview: Offered over 5-days, this workshop introduces the fundamentals of coming up with and developing a start-up concept and business model. These tools include: learning early-stage ideation strategies and tools, developing a business model canvas, building business/revenue models (that focus on scalability), understanding core concepts around the MVP (minimum viable product), and conducting effective market assessments / validation methods. The course also includes an introduction to basic concepts of design thinking and human-centered design.

IP Commercialisation and Management

Overview: This workshop aims to provide basic understanding of how to develop, commercialise and manage IP. The workshop will review how to go about working with others from the IP perspective, to include, contracts and confidentiality agreements, building an IP strategy, preparing an IP policy, and IP matters relating to employees. The training will consider IP management, and provide a framework for establishing a robust practice in house. The training will guide the participants through the threats and opportunities of spin-off establishment and licensing out. By the end of the course they will have an understanding of the options they have and the pitfalls they should avoid when it comes to IP management.

Market Analysis

Overview: This masterclass focuses on market strategy and provides practical tips on how to prepare to enter the marketplace with your product. The session is geared for start-ups that have not yet entered the market and are contemplating what needs to be in place for product launch. We examine case studies that emphasize the importance of taking a customer-centred approach to market entry and of being aware of barriers to scaling and selling your product. In additional, this session will enable participants to communicate their value and identify their distribution channels. In this session, we examine the pros and cons of different channels such as inside sales, direct sales, distribution, e-commerce and integrators. The session emphasizes developing the right criteria for choosing and managing channels. Integrating sales across multiple channels can be challenging for creative ventures. A case study is used to illustrate these points.
