Business Case Template Factsheet

A Business Case helps to determine whether or not a project justifies an organizations investment into a project or opportunity. The Business Case defines the problem/opportunity and its impact and performs a Cost Benefit Analysis for the proposed solution. It also looks at possible alternative solutions. Often overlooked, the Business Case should illustrate that the project/opportunity aligns with the organization’s strategic plans.

THE PROJECT
In bullet points, describe the problem or opportunity this project aims to solve or the opportunity it aims to develop.

THE HISTORY
In bullet points, describe the current situation highlighting the need or opportunity as identified.

LIMITATIONS
List what could prevent the success of the project, such as the need for expensive equipment, bad weather, lack of special training, etc.

APPROACH
List what is needed to complete the project.

BENEFITS
In bullet points, list the benefits that this project or opportunity will bring and quantify with numbers.

FUNDING REQUIREMENTS
In a table list the funding requirements in detail. Identify each item, what it is and what it is used for and where it will be obtained from – attach quotations..

FINANCIALS
Attach financial documents to illustrate the viability of the project or opportunity.
